Duke Federico da Montefeltro (AD 1422–1482) is considered one of the most representative figures of the Italian Renaissance due to his military virtues and patronage of the arts. His health has been the subject of several investigations, primarily aimed at determining the origin of the peculiar morphology of his nose (the result of a trauma) and, above all, the gouty rheumatological disease that caused his many sufferings. However, an underestimated aspect of his pathobiography is represented by the dermatological condition that afflicted him during his childhood.

Abstract
Duke Federico da Montefeltro (AD 1422–1482) is considered one of the most representative figures of the Italian Renaissance due to his military virtues and patronage of the arts. His health has been the subject of several investigations, primarily aimed at determining the origin of the peculiar morphology of his nose (the result of a trauma) and, above all, the gouty rheumatological disease that caused his many sufferings. However, an underestimated aspect of his pathobiography is represented by the dermatological condition that afflicted him during his childhood.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
