The current state of the teaching of restoration in Italy is rather complex and, above all, uncoordinated due to a series of reforms that have followed one another since 2011 but have not been fully implemented to date. This naturally has consequences that are highly critical both in disciplinary roles and in the use of skills, which can only be damaging to the safeguard of cultural heritage. The separation between architectural restorers and movable heritage restorers, absolutely complementary figures who must work together both in the drafting of the project, in the studio and on the building site, is a gap that must be filled. The figure of the restorer, more modern, has taken on broad competences whose interaction with those who practice architectural restoration must be improved, becoming the challenge of the coming years for a truly competitive and sustainable Made in Italy Restoration. The purpose of this essay is to illustrate the regulatory process that has been put in place, highlighting its potential and limitations.
