Floating Institution

The project has been developed on of the curators of the Egyptian pavilion at the 18th International Architecture Exhibition iat the Biennale of Venice, in 2023, whose main theme has been “Nilab. Nile as laboratory”, focusing on the relationship between architectural design and archaeological tourism. The proposition identifies the Nile front as the pivotal feature of the site and interprets the involuntary geometry drawn onto the water and the shore by the cages and the tanks as a settlement principle for walking on the river, from where to unveil the citadel. A geometric grid stretches over the project area and ties into a single architecture the marina for the sheltering of fishing boats and mooring of tourist vessels, the market for hawkers, and a system of public spaces.

Il progetto è stato elaborato su invito dei curatori del padiglione egiziano alla 18° Mostra Intenrazionale di Architettura della Biennale di Venezia 2023, nell’ambito del tema “Nilab. Nile as Laboratory”, e in relazione al rapporto fra architettura e turismo per i siti archeologici. L’intervento individua come cardine il fronte del Nilo e interpreta la geometria involontaria proiettata su acqua e riva da gabbie e vasche come principio insediativo per camminare sul fiume e scoprire da lì il fortino. Una griglia geometrica si distende sull’area di progetto e lega in un’unica architettura la marina per il ricovero dei pescherecci e l’ormeggio dei natanti turistici, il mercato per gli ambulanti e un sistema di spazi pubblici.
