Abstract

The Castle dominates the main and oldest port of Pantelleria, which has seen it over time as the fortress of the walled city. With the Anglo-American air attack, in 1943, a combat film will be made, a symbolic document that will show the world the destruction of the island. The castle will be the main actor in the transformation events of the town, including urban transformations, demolitions and restorations. Its relationship with the sea will be profoundly changed, the restoration of the nineties of the twentieth century will restore a medieval image, without finding a design solution to the need for a new use. Today the castle is an indispensable tourist destination, a symbolic monument of the island of Pantelleria and its history in the Mediterranean.
