Bombe su Palermo: i sistemi difensivi, le enunciazioni concettuali e la pratica del restauro dei monumenti nel secondo dopoguerra in Sicilia

The themes of war damage and the restoration of monuments and urban sites, as well as the broader interdisciplinary problems highlighted in the contemporary debate, still today demonstrate the topicality of the issues, still open to reflections and new acquisitions. It is still necessary to collects the historical reconstructions of the dramatic events of those years, giving space to memories, testimonies, chronicles or reports that also allow us to outline the cultural, political and social framework of the time. The aim is above all to highlight the significant case studies, the protagonists and interpreters of the restoration forced to deal with the torn cities and the half-destroyed historical architectures, the attitude of the national protection bodies to enforce the rules and the Charters of the restoration already formulated before the second world conflict, the theoretical elaborations and the choices of intervention also in the light of the national and European debate on the themes of conservation, the techniques of restoration but also the urban planning programs of intervention that in the following years will be elaborated for the rehabilitation of the historic city.

Il tema dei danni bellici e del restauro dei monumenti e dei centri urbani, oltre alle più ampie questioni interdisciplinari poste in risalto nel dibattito contemporaneo, ancora oggi dimostrano l’attualità delle problematiche, sostanzialmente aperte a riflessioni e nuove acquisizioni. Emergono originali ricostruzioni storiche dei drammatici avvenimenti di quegli anni, dando spazio a ricordi, testimonianze, cronache o resoconti che consentano di tratteggiare anche il quadro culturale, politico e sociale del tempo. L’obiettivo è soprattutto quello di porre in risalto i significativi casi di studio, i protagonisti e gli interpreti del restauro costretti a confrontarsi con il lacerato aggregato urbano e le fabbriche architettoniche lacunose, l’atteggiamento degli enti preposti alla tutela rispetto alle norme e alle Carte del restauro già formulate prima del secondo conflitto bellico, le elaborazioni teoriche e le scelte d’intervento anche alla luce del dibattito nazionale ed europeo sulle tematiche della conservazione, le tecniche di restauro del patrimonio architettonico ma anche i programmi urbanistici d’intervento che negli anni seguenti saranno elaborati per il risanamento della città storica.
