A poem of 21 lines (inc. «Gaudet polus, ridet tellus, iocundantur omnia»), dedicated to the healing of an unidentified queen, is no. 41 in the Medieval Latin poetic collection known as the «Carmina Cantabrigiensia» (CC). The piece has not received much attention as yet, apart from brief comments by editors. This essay examines carefully the structure, content, style, and language of the composition. In contrast to previous scholarship, this study argues that the poem is not a political encomium, but could instead be a pure rhetorical-literary "divertissement".

The piece has not received much attention as yet, apart from brief comments by editors. This essay examines carefully the structure, content, style, and language of the composition. In contrast to previous scholarship, this study argues that the poem is not a political encomium, but could instead be a pure rhetorical-literary "divertissement".File | Dimensione | Formato | |
