This essay aims to challenge the hetero-cis-normative gaze through which we take for granted public space regulation. Referring to what is thinkable and knowable as “unmarked” and “taken for granted” realities, the author focuses on LGBTQAI+ individuals as the “unthinkable” and the “unknowable” inhabitants of the public space. Hetero-cis-normativity has constructed a neutral, abstract and general public space to legitimate hegemonic representations, control and exclusion. Through a public sociology, people could understand what are the socio-political foundations needed to become “normal citizen” and try to change the hetero-cis-normative paradigm within social space and within the thinkable space of Academia
