The skills of support teacher envisaged by the Ministerial Decree of 30.9.2011 and those included in the profile of the European Agency for Special Needs and Inclusive Education of 2012 are illustrated. The debate of last ten years on the functions and task of support teacher is reported. The current critical points of this professional figure are highlighted and proposals are put forward to improve their training .
