In the past, the actvity of Italian archaeologists and architects in the Mediterranean was significant, engaged, for example, on the island of Crete in Gortina, Festòs and Aghia Triada, in the Island of Crete (Grecia) (late nineteenth century and first decades of twentieth century, and which continues in our days) in the restauration, arrangement and protection of archaeological remains. The essay investigates the protecion of archaeologiacal remains starting from the past experiences of Italian archaeoligist and architects in the Mediterranean, and comparing these interventions with recent ones both in Italy, in conuntries such as Greece, Malta and Turkey, in order to offer useful suggestions for thought for identify activities suitable for the protection, conservation, use and enhancement for the Archaeological Heritage, essential for our lives.

Rilevante è stata in passato l'attività degli archeologi e degli architetti italiani nel Mediterraneo, impegnati, ad esempio, nell'isola di Creta a Gortina, Festòs e Haghia Triada (fine Ottocento e primi decenni del Novecento XX, e che continua anche nei nostri giorni) nel restauro, sistemazione e tutela dei resti archeologici. Il saggio indaga la tutela dei resti archeologici partendo dalle esperienze passate di archeologi e architetti italiani, nel Mediterraneo, e confrontando tali interventi con quelli recenti sia in Italia che in paesi come Grecia, Malta e Turchia, al fine di offrire spunti di riflessione utili per individuare attività idonee alla tutela, conservazione, fruizione e valorizzazione del patrimonio archeologico, essenziale per la nostra vita.
