During the XIX century in the Ottoman Empire there was a real upheaval, which brought the empire to “modernity”. This process was favored by the sultans, whose ambition was to westernize the territories under the sphere of influence of the Sublime Porte, so that the State kept pace with Europe in all fields. One of the various fields that were affected by the reforms was that of fashion, which was perfectly linked to the birth of a bourgeois spirit and the need to modernize and westernize the empire. Fashion in the Ottoman Empire, as for Western societies, represents the acid test to understand the transformations and changes of an articulated society like the Ottoman.

Fashion in the Ottoman Empire, as for Western societies, represents the acid test to understand the transformations and changes of an articulated society like the Ottoman.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
