De élite militar a élite político-económica: actividades económicas y redes clientelares del cuerpo de los Jenízaros en el Imperio Otomano del siglo XVIII

During the 18th century, the Janissaries began to carve out a prominent role for themselves in Ottoman society. The objective of this article is to analyze the activities of the Janissaries in the 18th century, compared with the analysis of archival and historiographical sources, outside the war context. In the first place, will be analyzed the economic activities of the janissaries, secondly, the relations with the artisan guilds, which the militiamen built in the 18th century. The analysis of the documents of the Archive of the Ottoman Prime Minister/Başbakanlık Osmanlı Arşivi (BOA) will first reveal how the janissaries had become an economic pole; and, secondly, how the functions carried out by the janissaries, outside the battlefields, have always allowed them to play a fundamental role within the urban life of the Ottoman Empire
