The poetic inspiration in Plato’s Ion. Some notes · Plato’s Ion is generally considered in the con- text of the Platonic condemnation of Poetry. The purpose of this paper is to read the short dialogue as a good testament of the real practice of rhapsodes. It contains scattered details of their modus operandi and psychophysical condition during the performance. The divine power leads the rhapsode to a creative ecstasy comparable to the prophetic one. In this direction comparisons to other contexts of oral perfor- mance, as the Italian improvisation Poetry of the XVIII century, seem very productive.
