Eratosthenes and the εξωκεανισμός · The aim of this paper is to show that the εξωκεανισμός of Odysseus’ voyages is a doctrine that did not belong to Eratosthenes and probably arose only after his death. Among the supporters of this doctrine I try to distinguish Strabo, who claimed that Homer was inspired by real Mediterranean places as he described Odysseus’ voyages in the Ocean, from Crates of Mallo, who shows no traces of this idea. I suspect that Apollodorus of Athens shared Crates’ opinions on this point.
Si cerca di dimostrare che Eratostene non ha conosciuto l'exookeanismos e si cerca di determinare quali scrittori e in quali forme abbiano professato tale dottrina in età ellenistica.
