Due decenni (e oltre) di recupero per la pubblica fruizione del patrimonio artistico e monumentale nel centro storico di Palermo

The paper examined the virtuous process that has affected Palermo's historic center since the late 1990s and during the following two decades in the sense of the rediscovery, restitution and reappropriation of countless spaces and their respective historical and artistic contents by the citizenry. In fact, after decades of physical and cultural neglect, this period was marked by a remarkable ferment aimed at the recovery, reorganization and reopening of many sacred and secular city monuments, as well as the main museum institutions. All of this coincided with a renewed interest on the part of the social fabric, which has not stopped and still involves the historic center, with significant spillover effects from the economic point of view as well.

L’intervento ha preso in esame il processo virtuoso che ha interessato il centro storico di Palermo a partire dalla fine degli anni ’90 e nel corso del ventennio seguente nel senso della riscoperta, restituzione e riappropriazione di innumerevoli spazi e dei rispettivi contenuti storico-artistici da parte della cittadinanza. Difatti, dopo decenni di abbandono fisico e culturale, tale periodo è stato caratterizzato da un notevole fermento volto al recupero, riorganizzazione e riapertura di molti monumenti cittadini sacri e profani, nonché delle principali istituzioni museali. Tutto ciò è coinciso con un rinnovato interesse da parte del tessuto sociale, che non si è arrestato e che tuttora coinvolge il centro storico, con notevoli ricadute anche dal punto di vista economico.
