In the training sessions comprising the course entitled Expert in the Management of Proximity Violence, which is part of the project PROVIDE, a series of questionnaires were used to produce quantitative data (Foddy, 1993) that would allow us to generalize the results of the three participating countries: Italy, Spain and France. The first questionnaire examined the degree of knowledge that professionals who assist migrants and refugees have regarding the concept/management of proximity violence. Recent reports on human rights, such as the one by Amnesty International (2018), have repeatedly warned that refugees and migrants, especially women and children, often suffer abuse, rape and generalized gender-based violence, and that the situation is worse in the case of ethnic minorities; at the same time these reports point to ongoing incompliance of States in their duty to provide care and protection. To a large extent, this inaction by States and social operators has to do with a lack of knowledge about how the different forms of violence against migrant women operate.
