The contribution deals with the issue of the display of religious symbols in public schools, where different religious and cultural traditions coexist, retracing the main stages of the jurisprudential path on the subject of displaying the crucifix in schools, both nationally and internationally, with particular regard to the sentence of the Court of Cassation, United Sections, of 2021, which seems to dissolve some problematic issues that remained unresolved in the previous jurisprudence, highlighting how the 'supplement' activity of the judges is insufficient, because it leaves some empty spaces open which would require the intervention of the legislator and the political class represented by it.
