LUX VERA. Munifici committenti e argentieri palermitani dal barocco al neoclassicismo a Castelbuono e a Geraci Siculo

The contribution, which is part of the exhibition catalogue, examines some of the liturgical furnishings preserved in the Treasures of the Mother Church of Geraci Siculo and of the Matrice Nuova of Castelbuono and in the Civic Museum of the latter Sicilian centre. These are works in silver, in a fairly good state of conservation, mostly commissioned by the generous Ventimiglias, lords of the place. They are artifacts made by Sicilian silversmiths from the beginning of the seventeenth century to the nineteenth century, therefore from the Baroque period to neoclassicism. The precious artifacts, which attest to the devotion of the two mountain communities in the province of Palermo, are compared with other works conserved in various Treasures of the Island.

Il contributo, che fa parte del catalogo della mostra, esamina alcune le suppellettili liturgiche conservate nei Tesori della Chiesa Madre di Geraci Siculo e della Matrice Nuova di Castelbuono e nel Museo Civico di quest’ultimo centro siciliano. Si tratta di opere in argento, in discreto stato di conservazione, commissionate perlopiù dai munifici Ventimiglia, signori del luogo. Sono manufatti realizzati da argentieri siciliani dagli inizi del Seicento sino all’Ottocento, quindi dal periodo barocco al neoclassicismo. I preziosi manufatti, che attestano la devozione delle due comunità montane della provincia di Palermo, vengono raffrontati con altre opere conservate in diversi Tesori dell’Isola.
