Le figure orrifiche dell’infanzia in Sicilia, tra archetipi, geosinonimia e tabuizzazione. Una ricognizione tra le schede del VS

Fear is an ancestral condition that places man in front of his own insurmountable limits, to impotence, to the relationship with death, to illness, to disasters. But fear is also a condition that can be induced to control other men, reduce them to a state of acquiescence and annulment of will. The article is the result of a lexicographical survey on the Sicilian Vocabulary (1977-2002) of all the lexemes connected to the figures that inspire terror and which were traditionally used in Sicily to inhibit the actions, above all, of children. The corpus was then analyzed on the basis of the iconomics method, according to the mental images which are implicit in the linguistic form.

La paura è una condizione ancestrale che pone l’uomo di fronte ai propri limiti insuperabili, all’impotenza, al rapporto con la morte, alla malattia, ai disastri.Ma la paura è anche una condizione che si può indurre per controllare altri uomini, ridurli in uno stato di acquiescenza e annullamento della volontà. L'articolo è il frutto di una ricognizione lessicografica sul Vocabolario siciliano (1977-2002) di tutti i lessemi connessi alle figure che incutono terrore e che venivano usati tradizionalmente in Sicilia per inibire le azioni, soprattutto, dei bambini. Il corpus è stato analizzato, in seguito, in base al metodo dell'iconomia, a seconda delle immagini mentali che sono implicite nella forma linguistica.
