La verifica di un de restauro come criterio per una riflessione necessaria. La Villa Romana del Casale di Piazza Armerina (Enna), dal 1997 nella World Heritage List

Near Piazza Armerina (Enna), at the beginning of the cen. XX, the remains of the Roman Villa del Casale (4th century AD), with rich mosaic floors, were discovered. After the first restoration, in the mid-fifties of the cen. XX, the architect F. Minissi and C. Brandi designed a stable protection and system for the use of the remains of the villa. The roof was made with modem materials: alurninurn profiles and sheets of glass and perspex, which evoked the ancient volurnes, while maintaining the authenticity of the rernains. The arrangement, due to lack of maintenance, has heen a source of deterioration for the mosaics, and in fact since 2007 the works for their destruction and replacement have begun, ac cording to a project (commissioner V. Sgarbi, arch. G. Meli) that requires a vision both external and internal unsatis factory. Even if the problems related to water infiltration and microclirnatic data appear solved, as well as those of enhancement and use, thanks to the implernentation of the Managernent Plan (2012), the overali vision refers to ware houses or deposits that cover remains of extraordinary beauty.

Nei pressi di Piazza Armerina (Enna), all'inizio del sec. XX, sono stati scoperti i resti della Villa romana del Casale (IV sec. dC), con ricchi pavimenti musivi. Dopo il primo restauro, verso la metà degli anni Cinquanta del sec. XX, l'architetto F. Minissi e C. Brandi progettarono una protezione stabile e un sistema per la fruizione dei resti della villa. Il tetto è stato realizzato con materiali moderni: profili in alluminio e lastre di vetro e perspex, che evocavano le antiche volurne, pur mantenendo l'autenticità dei resti. La sistemazione, per mancanza di manutenzione, è stata fonte di degrado per i mosaici, e infatti dal 2007 sono iniziati i lavori per la loro distruzione e sostituzione, secondo un progetto (commissario V. Sgarbi, arch. G. Meli) che richiede una visione sia esterna che interna insoddisfacente. Anche se i problemi legati alle infiltrazioni idriche e ai dati microclimatici appaiono risolti, così come quelli di valorizzazione e fruizione, grazie all'attuazione del Piano Managernent (2012), la visione d'insieme fa riferimento a magazzini o depositi che ricoprono resti di straordinaria bellezza .
