Progetto di restauro, per la fruizione e la valorizzazione della chiesa di Sant’Antonio Abate

The essay presents the methodological process used for the analysis of the state of conservation and of the accessibility problems present in the parish church of Sant'Antonio Abate in Palermo, already existing at the beginning of the century. XIII. Furthermore, the essay shows a proposal for restoration and accessibility to the church itself. Today there is a high difference in height (created with the opening of via Roma) between the level of via Roma and the access to the church. The research was conducted within the Restoration and Theory and History of Restoration Laboratory and involved the students of the LM4 course in Architecture of the Palermo Department. The solution suggested was to add an elevator built into the masonry to the numerous existing steps. The floor of the church can be reached by reopening a door, directly from the elevator arrival floor. In this case, the reopening of a closed door and the insertion of an elevator allows the overcoming of architectural barriers. This is a stable, non-provisional solution that binds (distinguishing itself) to the architectural pre-existence.

Il saggio presenta l’iter metodologico utilizzato per l’analisi dello stato di conservazione e delle problematiche di accessibilità presenti nella chiesa parrocchiale di Sant’Antonio Abate di Palermo, già esistente all’inizio del sec. XIII. Inoltre nel saggio si mostra una proposta di restauro e di accessibilità alla stessa chiesa. Oggi esiste un elevato dislivello (creato con l’apertura della via Roma) tra il piano della via Roma e l’accesso alla chiesa. La ricerca è stata condotta all’interno del Laboratorio di restauro e Teoria e storia del restauro e ha visto protagonisti le allievi e gli allievi del corso LM4 in Architettura del Dipartimento di Palermo. La soluzione suggerita è stata quella di affiancare ai numerosi gradini esistenti un elevatore incassato nella muratura. Al piano della chiesa si giunge mediante la riapertura di una porta, direttamente dal piano di arrivo dell’elevatore. In questo caso la riapertura di una porta chiusa e l’inserimento di un elevatore consente il superamento delle barriere architettoniche. Trattasi di soluzione stabile, non provvisoria che si lega (distinguendosi) alla preesistenza architettonica.
