Aylesbury Estate (2020) is a feature-length non-fiction film about the well-known social housing estate in London, which I called home for a few years. Shot between 2017 and 2020, the film follows the existential journey of a group of residents who must face the long demolition process of their estate. Through the analysis of the process of making the film and the film’s final form, the article proposes a ‘listening gaze’ for conducting field research through documentary film practice.
