In the media debate, that of the Sender is a hot seat. Filled in rapid succession by a large number of different actors - virologists, jurists, politicians, singers, witnesses, and why not, chefs - it is immediately targeted by the most diverse strategies of delegitimisation - delusions, corruptions, collusions, betrayals - that destabilise its sphere of competence. It is likely that the corpus of fairy tales, theatrical scenes and little linguistic dramas from which the concept was originally drawn did not provide sufficient opportunity to examine the strategies of establishment, permanence and delegitimisation of the Destinant. In our communication, we propose to analyse the controversy unleashed by Leonarda Sciascia on anti-mafia practitioners in order to put this pivotal figure of narrative grammar to the test. As we remember, the controversy was unleashed above all around the criteria for choosing Judge Paolo Borsellino to head the Marsala public prosecutor's office. Sciascia's criticism questioned the conditions for the constitution of a Destinante within a specific sphere of our culture, that of law. However, this controversy also produced powerful backlash effects on Sciascia himself, whose position as the moral Destinant of Italian society, as an intellectual, earned him the accusation of 'objective alliances' with the Mafia, affecting his authority in the socio-political sphere. Both of these rhetorical gestures – the accusation of being ill-fated and that of connivance – have entered repertoires of public debate still in use today. We will try to untangle the strategies of delegitimisation at play by attempting to complicate the concept of the Sender by analysing the forms of authority cotruited in the discourse, shifting the debate from the 'sphere' to the 'spheres' of the Sender.

Abstract
We will try to untangle the strategies of delegitimisation at play by attempting to complicate the concept of the Sender by analysing the forms of authority cotruited in the discourse, shifting the debate from the 'sphere' to the 'spheres' of the Sender.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
