I volti del sacro nella Segesta elima: spazi, riti, oggetti

The texts of the explanatory panels of the exhibition "The faces of the sacred in Segesta elima: spaces, rites, objects" inaugurated on 14 July 2021 at the Archaeological Park of Segesta in the new exhibition halls of the "Stazzo" are published here. The exhibition illustrates the religious life of the Elymian center, told through the recent acquisitions on the cult areas of Segesta (VI-V century BC), the result of 'excavations' carried out in the Park warehouses, where the numerous finds, mostly unpublished, are kept , of the old researches - carried out by Vincenzo Tusa in the 50s and 60s of the last century - to the so-called Grotta Vanella drain (pertaining to a sacred area located on the top of Monte Barbaro) and to the sanctuary in the Mango district. Such evidence has greatly expanded the knowledge of Greek and 'indigenous' spaces, rites and objects, i.e. the sacred in Segesta of the archaic and classical age, perceived since eighteenth-century travelers only through the architecture of the Great Doric Temple on the Western Hill and now rather reconstructed with different faces.

Si pubblicano in questa sede i testi dei pannelli esplicativi della mostra "I volti del sacro nella Segesta elima: spazi, riti, oggetti" inaugurata il 14 luglio 2021 al Parco Archeologico di Segesta nelle nuove sale espositive dello “Stazzo”. La mostra illustra la vita religiosa del centro elimo, raccontata attraverso le recenti acquisizioni sulle aree cultuali segestane (VI-V sec. a.C.), frutto di ‘scavi’ effettuati nei magazzini del Parco, dove sono conservati i numerosissimi reperti, per lo più inediti, delle vecchie ricerche - compiute da Vincenzo Tusa negli anni ’50-’60 del secolo scorso - al cosiddetto scarico di Grotta Vanella (pertinenti ad un’area sacra collocata sulla cima del Monte Barbaro) e al santuario di contrada Mango. Tali evidenze hanno ampliato di molto le conoscenze su spazi, riti e oggetti greci e ‘indigeni’, ovvero sul sacro nella Segesta di età arcaica e classica, percepito sin dai viaggiatori settecenteschi solo attraverso l’architettura del Grande Tempio dorico sulla Collina occidentale e ora ricostruito piuttosto con volti diversi.
