Palermo habitat multi-specie. Per un'integrazione fra uomo, natura e animali nella città neocosmopolita

Cities are in many ways cosmopolitan habitats because they are home to great human, animal, and plant diversity. Just as biodiversity in nature is richest where environmental heterogeneity is greatest, the same phenomenon occurs in man-made contexts (Mainardi, 2016). Parks, buildings, bell towers, and creeks offer a plurality of habitats and spaces for other species that have coexisted with humans since time immemorial and overlap with the living spaces of humans, giving rise to (not always peaceful) multi-species coexistence dynamics. The current pandemic situation has generated the conditions whereby our species has been able to observe the others around it, animals and plants, again, from their home or immediate surroundings. Through the threshold and interface spaces (balconies, terraces, windows, courtyards) between the domestic and the public-urban, we are confronted with a previously invisible world from spaces that prove to be valuable potentials and generators of transformation to bring nature, humans, and animals closer together.

Le città sono per molti versi habitat cosmopoliti perché ospitano una grande varietà umana, animale e vegetale. Così come in natura la biodiversità è più ricca laddove maggiore è l’eterogeneità ambientale, anche nei contesti antropizzati si verifica lo stesso fenomeno (Mainardi, 2016). Parchi, edifici, campanili, insenature offrono una pluralità di habitat e spazi per altre specie che coesistono con l’uomo da sempre e si sovrappongono agli spazi di vita degli esseri umani, dando vita a dinamiche di convivenza (non sempre pacifica) multi-specifiche. L’attuale situazione pandemica ha generato le condizioni per cui la nostra specie ha potuto osservare nuovamente le altre che la circondano, animali e vegetali, dalla propria dimora o nell’immediato intorno. Attraverso gli spazi di soglia e di interfaccia (balconi, terrazze, finestre, cortili) fra domestico e pubblico-urbano, ci si confronta con un mondo prima invisibile da spazi che si rivelano preziosi potenziali e generatori di trasformazione per avvicinare natura, uomo e animali.
