Hence the need to identify a methodology that allows to reach explanatory variables of the airport impact on the regional economy.

Abstract

Alongside the main air activities related to national and international scheduled flights, which absorb large traffic flows, it is now detectable an air activity, also intense, offering primary and supplementary services that often play an irreplaceable role in modern economic life, especially in the connections between places that, for geographical reasons or otherwise, aren’t easily accessible by other transport modes. It''s obvious that the functionality of these services also depends on policy choices in terms of airport facilities and their distribution on the national territory compared to the areas and the traffic volumes that interest them. The analysis is conducted on the basis of geographical data and socio-economic features that characterized the area taken into account. Using Geomatics and GIS technologies, the aim of this study is the recovery of regional economy, focused on the areas that are marginalized and depressed or emerging tourist. Best prospects, however, we have in relations with the islands and between islands, given the slowness of the shipping and the need for social and economic relations that should be frequent and fast. Besides, in addition to public interest, the social aim is more achieved employing the links between the Southern Italy and the marginal location than the industrial and economic centres, thus facilitating the objectives of revitalizing areas socially and economically less developed. Thus, the airport is seen as a service to the territory as a hospital, a school or a cultural center. It’s necessary, even in the case of a regional airport, to provide the area of influence and activities that allowed the best and most appropriate use and development of its, in according to the national and regional planning. Hence the need to identify a methodology that allows to reach explanatory variables of the airport impact on the regional economy.
