How many ways to tell a story of a dense and multifaceted city such as New York City? Many, certainly, since there are many frameworks on which to reason. An interesting reading key, certainly different, is the role that urban green spaces, gardens have played in the growth of New York City both in the five boroughs and as a physical and social connective system. Quanti modi ci sono per raccontare una storia, la storia di una città densa e plurima quale è New York City? Molte certamente dato che molti sono i quadri su cui ragionare. Una chiave di lettura interessante, e certamente differente da quelle che generalmente ritroviamo, è quella del ruolo che hanno avuto gli spazi verdi urbani, i giardini, a partire dai parchi storici, nella crescita della città di New York sia nei cinque distretti sia come sistema connettivo fisico e sociale. Il giardino, quindi, può essere visto come punto di collegamento fra l’uomo e il mondo in cui vive, dato che in tutte le epoche l’uomo ha sentito il bisogno di riconciliarsi con l’ambiente circostante, e si è così creato dei giardini per soddisfare i propri ideali e le proprie aspirazioni. Un luogo che imita la natura e che la ricrea all’interno di spazi urbani. Giardino e città parti di una stessa immagine, sempre più complementari, che hanno costruito relazioni e legami stabili influenzandosi reciprocamente.
