There is abundant empirical evidence which shows that corporate corruption is not so much the result of episodic events or favorable occasions, exploited by inveterate criminal minds or people of doubtful morality, but the result of widespread behavior that reflects substantial institutional weaknesses. This article, therefore, aims to clarify the individual, social and institutional processes that generate systemic corruption within public and private organizations. To this end, some reflections on the concept of corruption are also made. The reasons why organizations have a certain propensity for corruption are explained below. In the central part of the text, the organizational processes of normalization of corruption (rationalization, socialization, ritualization) are examined. The work concludes with some hypotheses aimed at explaining the underlying reasons that cause respectively public and private organizations to systemic corruption
