The contribution intends to reflect on the educational value of history, a discipline that, today more than ever, is perceived by the new generations as devoid of an educational purpose and not worthy of being studied with attention and interest. It will be highlighted how this denial of the past pushes the boys and girls of the 21st century towards a morbid attraction for the present (presentism), which motivates them to look with disenchantment at what concerns the past and the future. Through references to John Dewey's pedagogy and to some of his writings such as The School and Society and Democracy and Education, the educational value of history will be highlighted which, if actively and critically studied, can guide the present and future life of new generations

Abstract
The contribution intends to reflect on the educational value of history, a discipline that, today more than ever, is perceived by the new generations as devoid of an educational purpose and not worthy of being studied with attention and interest. It will be highlighted how this denial of the past pushes the boys and girls of the 21st century towards a morbid attraction for the present (presentism), which motivates them to look with disenchantment at what concerns the past and the future. Through references to John Dewey's pedagogy and to some of his writings such as The School and Society and Democracy and Education, the educational value of history will be highlighted which, if actively and critically studied, can guide the present and future life of new generationsFile | Dimensione | Formato | |
