In 1878 Eduard Winkelmann published in «Forschungen zur deutschen Geschichte», three carmina attributable to Henry of Avranches, Norman poet of the XIIIth century. The three poems are transmitted – like the vast majority of Henry’s carmina – by the ms. Dd. XI 78 of the University Library of Cambridge, written in the XIIIth century and belonged to Matteo Paris (siglum A). This paper presents a first section dedicated to the presentation of the figure of Henry of Avranches, with a bibliographic review of his main works, followed by a second and more extensive section devoted to the analysis of the three carmina for Federick II, studied in their content and formal, political and ideological characteristics. In particular, there are two elements that the medieval poet wants to express and convey: the profession of poetic pride and the praise of the Swabian emperor. In this direction, the three poems are perfectly placed within the vast and varied poetic production of Henry of Avranches.
