Vucciria a Palermo: narrazioni contemporanee da Guttuso alla Street Art

Piazza Caracciolo in the Vucciria in Palermo was one of the oldest and once flourishing marckests in the city. Unfortunately, depopulation before and abandonment of the marcket afte wards led to the decline of the marcket and its historical architectural consistency. Vucciria, in contemporary times, was the inspiration of artists, writers and directors, who like Guttuso, Sciascia, Taravella and Camilleri, that have immortalized it in their works. A renewed interest for the conservation and enhancement of the area it also, today, expressed by Street Art, which it adds and indicates a new life for the historic city.

Piazza Caracciolo nella Vucciria a Palermo era una dei più antichi e un tempo floridi mercati della città. Purtroppo lo spopolamento prima e l’abbandono del mercato dopo ha determinato la decadenza dello stesso e della sua consistenza storica architettonica. La Vucciria, in età contemporanea, è stata ispiratrice di artisti, scrittori e registi, che come Guttuso, Sciascia, Taravella e Camilleri, che l’hanno immortalata nelle loro opere. Un rinnovato interesse alla conservazione e valorizzazione dell’area oggi è pure espresso dalla Street Art, che si aggiunge e indica una nuova vita per la città storica.
