Abstract

During the last decade, the city of Palermo has been undergoing relevant transformations from various perspectives. This has been the consequences of a multitude of circumstances, European financial crisis, migrants/refugees crisis, a new administration of the city and an increased awareness and responsibility among the citizens. Various national and international recognitions (Italian Cultural Capital 2018, the European Biennial of Contemporary Art, Manifesta 12, Youth Capital 2017) have confirmed that they are on the right path. This positive moment has been launched and, progressively, rid- den by many young professionals that decided to challenge the present situation by investing their life for their hometown instead to expat. Last spring, during the second Urban Thinkers Campus in Palermo, Right to the future, organized by PUSH. with the Municipality of Palermo and promoted by the United Nations, an Open Call was launched to promote a dialogue on the future of cities and translate the global goals set by the New Urban Agenda into concrete local policies. More than 50 applications arrived from 12 different countries. The aim of this number of “iQuaderni di Urbanistica Tre”: Right to the Future: Vision Development Kit for the city of Palermo, is to promote 7 of the most innovative and replicable urban solutions, selected by an international Steer- ing Committee in order to elaborate concrete proposal and inspire visions for the city.
