This paper introduces to the idea of person that Adriano Olivetti placed at the center of his community project in post-World War II Italy. The central hypothesis is that the original olivettian personalism did not originate from his contact with the philosophers of the magazine "Esprit", but from the experiences lived by Olivetti in his factory that he transformed into an educational community, a place of flowering of person and a laboratory of democratic education. His political project of a community democracy had a religious foundation and was meant to promote the person. To fulfill this mission, Olivetti made his factory a school of human and professional education where the work was rediscovered as a vocation and as a way of spiritual elevation. Humanizing work, the community as a place for personal education and a participatory democracy, are olivettian issues that were developed around the idea of the person and that are very important today because respond to the need to create a human, solidarity and personalist society.
