Su mortu mortu vs Halloween. Questue infantili in Sardegna

The contribution investigates the relationship between traditional children's begging and Halloween in Sardinia. From the field research it emerged that in several centers Halloween has taken over the customary collection rounds, in others it coexists with them, but in most countries the festival of Anglo-Saxon origin has not yet spread since, in fact, traditional begging is vital. . These are two different ritual manifestations, expressions of historical and socio-cultural contexts but also different political-economic ones and yet the most well-known ritual symbols of the "American carnival" - the pumpkin with a lit candle, the ritual formula for requesting gifts and the threat of retaliation for the failure to give the goods - they are widely present in the island begging, to highlight the archaic origin of Halloween and, therefore, the recurrence of ritual practices and symbolisms, or rather a "common language" of the agro-pastoral societies of the past based on similar experiences and requests

Il contributo indaga il rapporto fra questue infantili tradizionali e Halloween in Sardegna. Dalle ricerche sul campo è emerso che in diversi centri Halloween è subentrato ai giri di raccolta consuetudinari, in altri convive con essi, ma nella maggior parte dei paesi il festival di origine anglosassone non si è ancora diffuso poiché, appunto, sono vitali le questue tradizionali. Si tratta di due manifestazioni rituali diverse, espressione di contesti storici e socioculturali ma anche politico-economici differenti e tuttavia i simboli rituali più noti della “carnevalata americana" – la zucca con la candela accesa, la formula rituale per la richiesta dei doni e la minaccia di ritorsioni per la mancata dazione dei beni – sono ampiamente presenti nelle questue isolane, ad evidenziare l’origine arcaica di Halloween e, dunque, la ricorrenza di prassi e simbolismi rituali, ovvero una “lingua comune” propria delle società agropastorali del passato basata su esperienze e istanze analoghe
