The paper analyzes a male portrait head that was discovered in the agora/forum of Halaesa. Several traces are examined, that attest the lives of the portrait-statue to which the head belonged, and allow to show dynamics and mechanisms of both the honorary practice and the opposite, oblivion and memory-sanctions. At first, the head most probably belonged to an Augustan effigies togata velato capite. In a second phase, it was transformed into an official early Constantinian portrait, portraying a young prince, probably Licinius II (to whom also a honorary inscription from Halaesa refers). Finally, it was defaced by having its surface and sensory organs injured. Even after having been pulled down and vandalized, the portrait maintained an active presence in the forum/agora of Halaesa, functioning as a monument of shame intended to sanction, and to suppress, the memory of the portrayed persona, who had falled into disgrace during the troubles accompanying the affirmation of Constantine as sole emperor.
