The aim of the essay is to offer a reflection on the Spanish, Sicilian and Neapolitan nobility in the complex framework of the dynastic crisis that occurred in the Spanish Monarchy on the death of Charles II. Starting from the analysis of the dynamics that began to modify the role of the Grandes at the court of Madrid during the regency of Mariana de Austria, the focus is mainly on the decades between the late seventeenth and early eighteenth century. The research highlights personal and legal strategies, new practices and languages of negotiation between nobility and sovereign, in order to understand the motivations that formed the basis for the accession by the Mediterranean nobility to the Bourbon or Austrian party, in the years of the War of Spanish Succession.

Lo scopo del saggio è di offrire una riflessione sulla nobiltà spagnola, siciliana e napoletana nel complesso quadro della crisi dinastica verificatasi nella monarchia spagnola alla morte di Carlo II. A partire dall'analisi delle dinamiche che hanno iniziato a modificare il ruolo delle Grandes alla corte di Madrid durante la reggenza di Mariana de Austria, l'attenzione si concentra principalmente sui decenni tra la fine del XVII e l'inizio del XVIII secolo. La ricerca evidenzia strategie personali e legali, nuove pratiche e linguaggi di negoziazione tra nobiltà e sovrano, al fine di comprendere le motivazioni che hanno costituito la base per l'adesione della nobiltà mediterranea al partito borbonico o austriaco, negli anni della guerra di Successione spagnola
