Susan Okin identifies the root of the inequality between women and men in the unequal distribution of the work within the family. In her analysis, family is the privileged place of the political reflection. In fact, what can the children learn about equality if the houses where they grow up and see the first examples of human interaction are not governed by principles of equality and reciprocity, rather by dependency and subordination? Okin makes a corrective feminine reading of the Rawlsian theory that opens many issues. This article analyzes the family as political problem and considers the question of justice for women in the multicultural contexts. Okin ends with stating that the best solution to guarantee equality for immigrants women is the abandonment of their own cultural tradition to adapt themselves to the standards established in the Western societies. Thus, are feminism and multiculturalism incompatible? The idea that feminism is not only the Western one, rather there are many feminisms, shines a different light on the complex relations between justice, gender and cultural differences.

Abstract
The idea that feminism is not only the Western one, rather there are many feminisms, shines a different light on the complex relations between justice, gender and cultural differences.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
