Abstract

In the last few years, a significant number of new golf courses have been built in Sicily, a land where golf has not traditionally been an overwhelmingly popular sport. The favorable climate in the region provides the possibility to practice all year long, and has been viewed by local entrepreneurs as a way for benefiting both the local economy as well as providing a healthy and socially engaging atmosphere for the players. This paper aims to provide a clear and compelling look at this up and coming opportunity from a geographical point of view, proposing an analysis of location choices and environmental impact as well as highlighting the positive impacts to the Sicilian tourism industry.
