The paper identifies the design themes for project in the so-called "south coast" of the city of Palermo. The contribution describes the development themes, analyzes the resources present and defines some design elements that will be developed both within the research presented in the volume and in the urban transformation policies of the City of Palermo. The South Coast of Palermo is a territory with strong identity resilience but its current fragile physical and social dimension can be seen in a haphazard mosaic of public housing, factories, voids, fragments of landscape, and large abandoned or discontinued areas such as the former Slaughter- house and the former Gasometer, bunched together with other now inactive productive areas, just before the mouth of the Oreto River. It is a glorious mosaic for the history of the city, with recognizable tiles but a frame that can no longer be perceived and, above all, an overall image that remains unknown. The stretch of the river near the delta features a regimented riverbed and lies in an area of high hydrogeological risk.
