The paper describes how and with what project tools the city can be re-thought in the light of the awareness of the importance of the City and of Man in the evolution of the Planet. The points of attention are: 1. building new life cycles for the city as a new way of designing the future of our cities and not just as physical recycling of scrap produced by the consumption of natural resources and soil; 2. the relevance of time within the planning and planning processes of the life of our cities as a non-physical space where limited resources can be used more harmoniously; 3. the definition of new action priorities other than the undifferentiated growth of urban spaces; 4. the use of waste as a new raw material for the energy balance of anthropic spaces.
