The landscape of strongholds

Territorial defence led to extraordinary results in terms of forming and transforming the territory and landscape, at times with spectacular sights and incredible sizes. The one hundred year anniversary since the beginning of the First World War offered a hint for reflecting on the spin-offs on the landscape, caused by the war and more in general by the defensive structures and their relation with the surrounding landscape.

La difesa dei territori ha offerto risultati straordinari alla formazione e alla trasformazione del territorio e del paesaggio, a volte con tratti spettacolari e dimensioni incredibili. La celebrazione del centenario dell’inizio della Prima guerra mondiale ha offerto lo spunto per una riflessione sulle ricadute indotte sul paesaggio dagli eventi bellici, e più in generale dalla realizzazione di strutture difensive e del loro rapporto con il paesaggio circostante.
