Riga-Fede disease (RFD) is clinically characterized by the presence of a traumatic ulceration on the ventral surface of the tongue in newborns and infants. It is frequentely associated with prematurely erupting primary teeth, but may also occur after the eruption of primary lower incisors in older infants with repetitive tongue thrusting habits and children with familiar dysautonomia (insensitivity to pain).
