The essay examines the political writings of Borgese in the years between 1914 and 1919 to illuminate the thematic intersections with the major novel Rubè and to measure the artistic and literary transformations and reworkings. The diplomatic activity of Borgese was very extensive and in-depth and the writings merged in magazines and then in volume constitute a non-marginal or secondary part of his journalistic-literary writing.
