The text is dedicated to describing the main features of the intervention in Italy to counter the Mafia, which was developed between law and society. The analysis begins with the "long sleep" of the Criminal Code of 1930 and the first measures of non-criminal nature. It then examines the main traits of the important anti-mafia law of 1982, as well as the subsequent regulatory interventions and judicial experiences in the decade 1982-1992.The further phase of response to the mafia attacks of 1992 is recalled. Specific attention is given to the key sector of the fight against illicit proceeds, with particular attention to the increase of patrimonial prevention and the social re-use of confiscated assets. In conclusion, the study points out the need for legislative re-organisation of the matter and the adoption of the Anti-mafia Code.
