IL PADRE E LA COSTRUZIONE DI UNA NUOVA IDENTITÀ GENITORIALE NELL’ITALIA DEGLI ANNI CINQUANTA

The post-modern society is considered a society without father: on one hand is denounced the death or eclipse of the father and on the other hand his return is wished for. Starting from the contemporary, the article analyzes the end of fatherhood as a long terms phenomenon that concerns the crisis of the authoritarian father’s code and it seeks his roots on plane of the historical research lingering on fifties in Italy. Through audiovisuals and literary sources it is reconstructed a father identity that seems not matching with that one more diffused in the collective imaginary: it does not seem to be a reassuring and a determined father but fragile, unclear and difficult to decode. It is a kind of father which is holding an archaic culture with traditional values that, in the years of “the Italian economical miracle”, are shown to be outdated so to put in crisis the parental authority and the family values. This critical phase has blown up throughout the following times and it leads nowadays to the discovery of a new fatherhood more discrete almost remote, but more aware of his parenting rule.

La società tardo-moderna viene considerata una società senza padri: da un lato si denuncia la morte o l’eclisse del padre, dall’altro lato si auspica un suo ritorno. Prendendo l’avvio dalla contemporaneità, l’articolo analizza la fine della paternità come un fenomeno di lunga durata che riguarda la crisi del codice paterno autoritario e ne ricerca le radici nel piano della ricerca storica soffermandosi sull’Italia degli anni Cinquanta. Attraverso fonti audiovisive e letterarie viene ricostruita un’identità paterna che non sembra corrispondere a quella maggiormente diffusa nell’immaginario collettivo: essa non appare rassicurante, decisa, autoritaria, ma fragile, ambigua e da decifrare. Si tratta di un padre detentore di una cultura arcaica e di valori tradizionali che, negli anni del miracolo italiano, si rivelano obsoleti, gettando le basi per una crisi della famiglia e dell’autorità genitoriale che, esplodendo negli anni successivi, conduce oggi alla scoperta di una nuova paternità discreta e quasi nascosta ma più consapevole del proprio ruolo genitoriale
