Le ville di Falconarossa

Falconarossa, located on the foot of the hills surrounding Palermo, north-west of the ancient core, was for Giuseppe Samonà an extraordinary experience to reflect on architecture’s modern language. Through five “special” villas, the only that were built of those provided by a series of development plans never carried out, Samonà creates original compositions where some of the most significant architectural experiences of the XX century mingle together in a new form. It is also interesting and instructive the comparison between the projects that come before and after the special villas and, above all, between the latter and the project for the Offices of the House of Representatives, as it generates a common reflection between architecture and town planning.

Il saggio spiega come l’esperienza di Falconarossa, località posta alle falde dei colli che circondano Palermo a nord-ovest del nucleo antico, sia stata per Giuseppe Samonà un’occasione straordinaria per una riflessione sul linguaggio moderno dell’architettura. Attraverso il progetto di cinque ville “speciali”, le uniche costruite, previste da una serie di piani di lottizzazione mai attuati, Samonà dà vita a composizioni originali nelle quali si fondono, in modo inedito, alcune delle più significative ricerche architettoniche del XX secolo. Interessante e utile è anche il confronto fra i progetti che precedono e seguono cronologicamente le ville speciali e soprattutto fra queste e la proposta per gli Uffici della Camera dei Deputati sviluppando un ragionamento unico fra architettura e urbanistica.
