The Reggia (lit. royal palace) di Venaria, the most important of the Sabaude residences, was built starting in the mid-seventeenth century, aiming to express the prestige of the tiny Sabaudo dukedom; it was able to stand comparison with the most prestigious royal palaces in Europe at that time. The swift process of deterioration and pillage that had begun following the Napoleonic era, continued until the present day, and has finally been halted thanks to long and complex restoration. The results achieved in terms of quality and sustainability were the fruit of managerial ability, innovative techniques and materials and together constitute an important landmark in the sphere of safeguard of the national heritage.
