L’uomo è radicalmente figlio. Nasce fragile e bisogna aiutarlo a crescere.

Abstract
The human being is radically a child. He is born fragile and must be helped to grow. Education consists precisely in offering this help toward growth. But toward what should he be helped to grow? Toward the fulfilment, within him, of the unique and unrepeatable project of sonship willed by God. Fatherhood and motherhood do not have as their sole purpose the generation of the child, but also his education. Their purpose is to co-educate the child. For this reason, a unilateral education—whether provided only by the father or only by the mother—as well as polygamy, divorce, and other forms of family disintegration, inevitably entails educational deficiencies and affective wounds. Paternal and maternal education are different, yet complementary. The father teaches the child to play, to know how to win according to the rules, and to know how to lose serenely. The mother is the womb, the place of welcome and acceptance. The first key to childhood education is care, that is, an educational action directed toward the harmonious growth of affectivity: emotions, feelings, and affections. The second key is rooted in the development of the imagination, an indispensable foundation for the education of intelligence and will. The third key concerns education in respect for truth, in the virtues, in inquiry, in global orientation, and always in the transcendent openness of the person. In these pages, the reader will find pedagogical reflections that are both simple and profound, solidly grounded and broad in scope, offered by a thinker of great stature who here proves to be particularly accessible.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
