VAL DI NOTO ed EUROPA. La dimensione internazionale dell’architettura tra Seicento e Settecento

Through a series of significant case studies organized by design themes, this volume explores the close connection between architectural and decorative works in the reconstruction of the Val di Noto following the devastating earthquake of 1693 and 18th-century European engraving. These are instances in which the recurring tension between international ambitions and local considerations comes to the fore. In the Val di Noto of the 18th century, aspirations were almost always international, with a European scope; however, it is also true that materials, techniques, and building traditions were limiting factors, and it was strictly necessary to come to terms with the experience of the territory and what the local reality had to offer.
