Taking as its vantage point the representation of U.S. politics during the Cold War and in the years immediately following its end, this volume reconstructs the history of the Italian Social Movement, also examining how the MSI received American culture as conveyed through cinema, music, and the mass media. Drawing on archival documentation, it also reconstructs the party leaders’ sporadic and unsuccessful attempts to establish relations with U.S. politics. Through the American lens, the book traces the continuities, discontinuities, and internal differences within the MSI’s political culture, from its origins to the birth of Alleanza Nazionale.
