Architecture in Palermo and Sicily between the 15th and 16th centuries is not easily integrated into the great national debate known as the Renaissance. Yet even in these 'peripheral' areas, symbolic investments are polarized between the replication of ancient forms (not necessarily Roman) and daring forms of modernity. In aristocratic emulation as well as in the continuous search for legitimization and the propaganda of building skills, the columns placed at the corners and the windows opened on the angles can therefore be interpreted as complementary paradigms of an entire period

Abstract
Architecture in Palermo and Sicily between the 15th and 16th centuries is not easily integrated into the great national debate known as the Renaissance. Yet even in these 'peripheral' areas, symbolic investments are polarized between the replication of ancient forms (not necessarily Roman) and daring forms of modernity. In aristocratic emulation as well as in the continuous search for legitimization and the propaganda of building skills, the columns placed at the corners and the windows opened on the angles can therefore be interpreted as complementary paradigms of an entire period| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
